Ardennes Mountains Tour

Ride some of the undiscovered gems of northern France on this tour through the tranquil region of the Ardennes. Soak up the atmosphere as you encounter the extensive forests, rolling hills and ridges of the Givetian Ardennes mountain range, which straddles Belgium, Luxembourg and France.

From our hotel in the heart of the mountains, we will explore the Oesling region of Luxembourg, the banks of the Moselle River and the Eifel Mountains of Germany. The roads here have every type of bend imaginable, very little traffic and courteous drivers. They offer up plenty of challenges and opportunities for you to hone your riding skills further.

This relaxed single center tour is perfect for anyone new to motorcycling abroad and you will get plenty of tips to improve your riding along the way should you wish. As with all our tours, you will be encouraged to ride at your own pace and within your own abilities. That said, the daily mileages for this trip are fairly low so we take a very relaxed approach, stopping for coffee and photo stops throughout the day.

Expect fantastic twisty roads, stunning scenery across open countryside and mountainous wooded areas, plus plenty of history and places of interest. Combine this with the home of Belgian Blonde Beer and you surely have the recipe for the perfect long motorcycling weekend! We have graded this tour as SUITABLE FOR ALL

Expect fantastic twisty roads and stunning scenery across open countryside

Day 1: Calais to Ardennes (220 miles)

The tour group will assemble at our designated meeting point in Folkestone Kent ,where you will be met by your tour guide. After introductions and a quick briefing we then make our way to the Eurotunnel for our crossing to Calais.

The first leg of our journey is on the motorway through the Pas de Calais area. Once off the motorway we will stop for a coffee in the Town of Cambrai. Perhaps most famous for being at the centre of the world’s first ever tank battle during the first World War, today it’s known as a town of art and history. From here we continue as we mean to go on and head into the twisty roads of the Ardennes region. Here, we duck in and out across the French and Belgium borders and follow the winding banks of the Meuse and Semois Rivers to our hotel in the heart of the Ardennes region, our base for the next three nights.

Day 2: Ride out (140 miles)

After a buffet style breakfast we will saddle up and take a relaxed ride through the open countryside. By now everyone should be gaining confidence and getting more used to driving on the right hand side of the road. Our first stop today is in Dinant, a picturesque town squeezed between the River Meuse and the high rocks that overlook the imposing citadel below. From here it’s back onto the bikes for more twisty roads, this time through beautiful wooded areas and rolling countryside.

Before returning to our hotel we will visit the town of La Roche-en-Ardenne. Lying on a sharp bend in the River Ourthe, this small town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Ardennes. On leaving the town it’s time to return to our hotel and sample the local beer after a great day’s ride.

Day 3: Ride out (180 miles)

Today is a pure biking day with twisty smooth surfaced roads to look forward to. The ride out will take us into the Oesling region of Luxembourg and then into the Eifel mountains that hug the border in Germany. These roads have every type of bend imaginable, very little traffic and mostly considerate and courteous drivers so they offer plenty of challenges and are the perfect place for you to hone your riding skills further.

Lunch today will be at the ‘Biker Ranch’, a typical German biker-cafe that is always busy with bikers, it even has a motorcycle shop in the same complex.

Day 4: Ardennes to Calais (220 miles)

Time to head home I’m afraid. On our journey towards Calais we will take the time to stop at the town of Bouillon. The town sits in a sharp bend of the river Semois and is home to Bouillon castle which is perched on three rocky outcrops and is characterised by a labyrinth of corridors and huge vaulted halls, a truly picturesque spot. The ‘Giant’s Tomb’ view point offers a stunning panorama of the curiously shaped hill surrounded by the river.

From here it’s more twisty roads through France and Belgium before picking up the motorway for the short stint back to Calais to catch our afternoon Eurotunnel crossing back to Blighty. Here, we will say our final farewells. Don’t forget to drive on the left!
